VivianiteAn aesthetic thumbnail specimen featuring a few rich green colored, GEM quality prismatic crystals of Vivianite with minor attached red altered sandstone. The largest crystal has a separation mark where another crystal once grew, but the piece has a great three dimensional quality as the smaller crystal is flaring off the side at a nearly 90 degree angle. The crystals are virtually WATER CLEAR and look beautiful up close. Specimen #VIVBOL81804

The specimen is essentially a complete "floater" as it was etched off the matrix and then fully re-crystallized ("re-healed")

A great quality Vivianite from Huanuni

The Siderites from this mine are not the typical blocky rhombic habit like those seen from a lot of other ore bodies in Colorado

silvery colored crystals that glow a beautiful RED color when backlit - hence the term "Ruby Silver"

but these new Mexican specimens have really given collectors an amazing impression of how fine and attractive this material can be

there was a lot of collecting that took place between the Upper New Street and Lower New Street Quarries in an area that is affectionately referred to by some as "Middle New Street"
